Red Bull Hot Dawgs & Hand Rails

As we do every year when Red Bull HDHR rolls around, we loaded up The Shop Rig and head for Big Bear. This year felt a little different though. Be it the heat, hopes that El Nino's wake would provide fresh snow this season or could it be...Yup! HDHR is now a music festival of sorts? This year Red Bull packed a whole lineup of artists to perform over the course of the entire weekend. This made for one hell of a good time which left us and I'm sure everyone else in attendance pretty hung as'. The weekend lineup included

  • She Wants Revenge

  • Dilated Peoples

  • Atlas Genius

  • Eagles of Death Metal

  • DJ Jayceeoh

  • Wale

Needless to say what began as a SoCal Mountain Rail Jam Get a Little Turnt fest is now attempting to make the jump into a millennial attraction.

The 2016 HDHR Jam layout was for me personally a bit of a let down, but hey what do I know. Call me old fashioned but I'm a huge fan of a killer rail jam layout with a side order of shotgunning tall boys. Where's the huge Red Bull wall rides or rooftop step ups? This years layout, although extremely hyped up with the promise of more artificial snow than ever before, just wasn't that epic. There was no shortage of rails thats for sure but the jaw dropping "awe factor" wasn't there for me. In previous years Red Bull seemed to hold nothing back especially the creativity and that's what made HDHR such a rad event to open the season. Seems like this year they may have blew their wod on the musical performance and forgot their creative juices at the beach.

But hey! All in all HDHR 2016 was an absolute blast chicks everywhere, great music, and most importantly riders absolutely throwing it down!
